The Heart of the Advocate
What has kept
The Church of the Advocate/Red Door Ministry
alive for the last 25 years?
What does it look like ?
It's kept alive by it's heart
Since 1997 when a young curate, whose heart compelled her to reach out to the underserved in Asheville; The Church of the Advocate’s heart, has been the hearts of those serving this ministry. They have been the ‘life blood’ of what The Red Door means to those it has touched.
Nicki Peresich was a dedicated volunteer at the Red Door for many years. Nicki would help gather and hand out supplies, pray with individuals, giving out hugs, and assist with anointing.
To some on the streets, she was nicknamed the Mother Teresa of Asheville. She also assisted with the Room in The Inn shelter ministry and was a prayer partner on Wednesday at the Haywood Street Congregation.
Due to declining health issues, Nicki is currently homebound and being cared for today by her son Jacob. Josh, a student at UNCA with a history of ministry at the Red Door, continues to reach out to Nicki with home visits. Nicki thanks all her friends praying for her and enjoys receiving cards. She continues her ministry of praying for all those who frequent the Red Door ministries.
Cards for Nicki can be sent to the following: Nicki Peresich, PO Box 398, Weaverville, NC 28787. The photo is of Josh visiting Nicki on October 14, 2022.
