Can YOU, Can I, Make a Difference?

“Can I make a difference?”

Since March of this year The Church of the Advocate/Red Door Ministries (COA), has partnered with other Asheville organizations to supply lunches for those in need originally housed at Harrah’s Cherokee Center Asheville and now at the Red Roof Inn.  We partner with the City of Asheville, Homeward Bound and the Asheville Poverty Initiative to supply bag lunches for those currently housed there.

Different teams from COA prepare Tuesday bag lunches and here is a wonderful video from our partner Trinity Episcopal Asheville and how Trinity kids “have made a difference”

This is from Shannon at Asheville Poverty Initiative:

"While few could see this stretching out through the summer months, I hope you each know the deep gratitude we feel for all that y'all are doing to support those staying at Red Roof.  Even though this has been going on for a while and for those who are helping out weekly - that can be taxing - the good news is that Homeward Bound is doing a fabulous job trying to ensure as many people as possible who are at the hotel now do not go back to the streets but to housing once the funding ends for hotel stay.  So please know that by helping API feed bellies, you are also allowing Homeward Bound to focus their time and energy getting folks housed."

Here is how YOU can make a difference and who to contact:

The program at Red Roof Inn will go into August and maybe through the end of the month.  Do we have any volunteers for Tuesdays in the month of August and possibly beyond that? Getting a team together is a good way to get the job done with less effort and maybe even some fun!  Another option is to make and deliver just 10 or 12 lunches and we will put the group together. Grant money is available and we will happily reimburse anyone who would like to be reimbursed.  Your contribution is deeply appreciated by so many.  A typical lunch might contain a sandwich, chips, fruit, cookies and a drink - water is good.  Lunches need to be delivered at noon to room 203 (the Homeward Bound temporary office) at the Red Roof Inn, 16 Crowell Rd., off Patton Ave in West Asheville.  There is an elevator in the lobby.

Contact me if you are able to help out or help out again or if you have any questions or concerns.
Thank you!
