A Prayer for the 8th Sunday After Pentecost

You told us, Lord, about the Reign of God.
You spoke to us of mustard seeds
And wheat kernels and treasures buried in secret places.
You told us of the net in which we were all caught up.
You asked us if we understood and we nodded, not understanding at all.

Because what we wanted was what we’ve always wanted
from the very first time
we caught sight of that luscious fruit on that tree in the middle of your garden.

We wanted to eat.
Give us this day our daily bread.

But most of all, help us to bake bread for those who have none; to bless it, break it and give it to them
In your Name.
Amen.
